about this event
Hack Night: Saturdays at the Bellingham Makerspace. Every Saturday, the Bellingham Makerspace opens its doors for Hack Night, a free, weekly gathering for anyone curious about technology, making, and learning together. It's a hybrid event, so you can join us in person or online.
Everyone is welcome. Really. Whether you're a seasoned engineer, a student, a hobbyist, or have never touched a command line, you belong here. We don't tolerate discrimination of any kind, and there are no dumb questions. Some of our best conversations start with a question someone was nervous to ask. Asking is how we all learn.
What we talk about: Anything at the intersection of tech and making, including cyber security; making toys accessible to children with disabilities; what the "best" hardware actually is for your needs and budget; upcycling e-waste into an on-prem AI setup; and whatever you're stuck on or excited about.
How the night works: Introductions and "Joust" — we say hello and play our icebreaker game. Then a short session: a half-hour talk or demo on a topic of interest; many are planned by attendees in advance, and you're welcome to propose one. Then social and project time — bring a project, homework, or an idea, and work on it alongside others. Collaboration is the point, and we play fun, educational games along the way.
Join us! In person at Bellingham Makerspace, 1 Bellis Fair Parkway #618 (enter the mall through Dick's, and the Makerspace is the first on the right). Online at https://matrix.to/#/#hacknight.lfnw:matrix.org on the LinuxFest Matrix server. When: Saturdays, 5pm until late. Cost: Free.
Hack Night is made possible by the Bellingham Makerspace, which generously hosts us each week. It's connected to the LinuxFest Northwest (LFNW) and Bellingham Linux Users Group (BLUG) communities. By attending in person, you agree to follow the Bellingham Makerspace Code of Conduct and Waiver of Liability.
Important information: COVID-19 — masks (can provide) are optional at the Makerspace, but hand sanitizing and social distancing are highly encouraged. Maximum class size has been reduced to allow for social distancing. Class fees: the class is free! Donations welcomed.
Other FAQs: Where to arrive? Please park outside Dick's Sporting Goods. Enter the mall through Dick's; the Makerspace is the first on the right. All ages welcome; under 12 must bring an adult assistant. Other questions? Email us at manager@bellinghammakerspace.org.
