about this event
SHPE Jr. Designathon is a one-day design competition for high school students, hosted by SHPE UF. The event is open to students from schools with SHPE chapters, regardless of engineering experience. Participants work in teams to build a project using beginner-friendly tools and AI-assisted development, guided by tutorials and mentorship from SHPE UF members throughout the day.
The goal is to introduce high schoolers who are thinking of pursuing engineering or STEM careers, to real software development and designing in a low-pressure, supportive environment. No prior programming background is required. Students leave with a working project, new technical skills, and exposure to the kind of problem-solving used in college-level engineering and computer science.
